We’re excited to share more details about Genius and what we’ve been up to at Diagram with design + AI.
Today, we’re introducing a preview of Genius, your AI design companion in Figma. It understands what you’re designing and makes suggestions that autocomplete your design using components from your design system.
It’s important to explore lots of ideas and iterate in the design process, and Genius ideates and iterates alongside you as you design.
Design Tools From the Future
At Diagram, we’re building generative design tools that empower everyone to be more creative and productive.
Our first AI design tool Magician, is a magical way to use AI inside of Figma. It lets you do everything from generating unique icons from text to copywriting. We’re continuing to iterate and plan to introduce new magic spells and features that make it the most powerful set of AI utilities for designers.
With Genius, we’re working our way towards generating user interfaces. This is something we started exploring as long as 2.5 years ago with GPT-3 meets Figma. Here’s an early example of Genius that sees you’re working on a coffee order screen and suggests an add to order button and a text description:
We’re excited to keep pushing on an AI + design interface that doesn’t rely entirely on a text input, stays out of the way, and makes use of the work you’ve already done to let you be more creative, all while ensuring the output looks and feels like your existing UI/system.
We’re building AI for designers made by designers, and our goal isn’t to replace ourselves in the process. Everything we work on comes from a place of love and empathy for design, and we want to make sure our tools are mindful of this.
User Interface Artificial Intelligence
Behind much of what we’re planning to do is our set of custom models we’re building that we call UI-AI, or User Interface Artificial Intelligence.
Our vision is to create incredibly powerful tools that improve the lives of UI designers and allow everyone to design their digital world. Combining intelligent systems and tasteful execution, we think we can make design more fun, inclusive, and creative.
To support this, our UI-AI team builds models that combine the latest LLMs, diffusion models, and creative prompting to generate new UI designs and glyphs.
We’ll be sharing more soon about our first custom model, UI-AI Glyphs, that generates icons from text. Here’s an example of what it’s capable of:
